You’ve found the home of the monthly Chippenham Comedy Club and the annual Chippenham Comedy Festival! Wil Hodgson, highly respected on the UK comedy circuit and winner of the Perrier Newcomer Award 2004, has run both of these in his hometown of Chippenham, Wiltshire for many years. We’ve been lucky to be hosted by the best pub in Chippenham, The Old Road Tavern, since 2013.
The Chippenham Comedy Club has run in various venues across Chippenham over the years. Previous acts have included Russell Howard, Jon Richardson, Mark Thomas, Stewart Lee, James Acaster, Phill Jupitus, Richard Herring, Robin Ince, Josie Long and Reginald D. Hunter – to name just a few! Some of these acts, plus many others, played the Club when they were just starting out on the circuit.
Even today, one of our great passions as a club is supporting promising new talent. We give the people of Chippenham the opportunity to see the best of the UK comedy circuit on their doorstep and to see arena stars of the future in an intimate setting. We are a club for the comedy connoisseur where people go to listen to and laugh at a very wide variety of stand up styles from surrealism to political satire and one liners to musical comedy. This means that no two nights are ever the same.
As Wil is a veteran of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, as well as other festivals as far afield as Amsterdam and Australia, he decided one day that Chippenham deserved a comedy festival of it’s own.
